The Ancaster Avalanche Midget Selects won the Barrie Select
Tournament (March 28-30) by defeating Clarington 4-2 in the championship game.
The Avalanche were in the major midget division with 12 teams. In the round-robin, the Avalanche beat Parkdale 3-2, lost to Lawfield 3-1 and won 5-0 over Pembroke to finish first in their pool.
They faced a strong team from Coronation in the semi-finals and came out on top with a hard fought 2-1 win. This broke the “semi-finals jinx”for the Avalanche who had lost in overtime in the semi-finals of their previous two tournaments to the eventual champion.
In the finals, the Avalanche faced Clarington, who finished as the top team overall after the round-robin. The Avalanche broke a 2-2 tie after two periods to score twice in the third period to win 4-2 and capture the gold medal.
The coaches are very proud of the boys’ focus, determination and great team play throughout the tournament.
