Novice Selects Win Dofasco Tournament
The Ancaster Avalanche Novice Select team won the Dofasco Tournament over the February 6-8, 2015 weekend by defeating the Lawfield Thunder 6-2 in the championship game.

Game 1 was a close game with Tim R. scoring early in the first period to make it 1-0 but the Dofasco Steelhawks came back to take a 2-1 lead in the third period. Carter S. tied the game late in the third and the team finished their first game with a 2-2 tie.

Game 2 started with Michael K opening the scoring with the only goal of the period at the 1:20 mark of the first. When the second period started, the flood gates opened with Jake B. scoring a second period hat trick with Carter S. and Daniel C. adding singles.  The final score was 6-0 and the boys improved their record to 1-0-1

The boys kept the scoring streak going in Game 3 with a 6-2 victory.  Jake B. and Daniel C. both score 2 goals.  Carter S and Nate Y capped off the scoring in the game.  Their record to finish the round robin portion of the tournament was 2-0-1.  This was good enough to bypass the quarter finals and take us directly to the semi finals against the home team Dofasco.

The boys played a hard tight game in the semi with Jake B. opening the scoring midway through the first period with a quick shot from the side of the net.  The second period was scoreless with lots of end to end chances.    Michael K. took a breakaway pass down the center to score the team’s second goal.  With less than two minutes left in the game, Dofasco pulled their goalie and pressed to score their first goal of the game.  Both our goalies stopped everything to keep it close deep into the third. This allowed us to move onto the championship game with a 2-1 victory

After finishing with silver in the Chedoke tournament and now knowing what it takes to win, The Novice Select started the game in top gear and never slowed down until the final buzzer sounded.   The boys showed great passing and cycling of the puck.  The offensive players back checked to help the D while the Defence moved the puck away from our goalies and up to the flying forwards.  The boys scored in all three periods with goals going to Carter S. - Jake B. - Daniel C. – Nate Y, and Michael K.  Final score was 6-2 over Lawfield and gold was ours.
