Select/House League Tournament Policy
Over the years, AMHL has worked hard to find the best mix to accommodate both our House League and Select Programs. An important issue has been the priority of our players House League team over their Select Team when there is a conflict.  The AMHL board has reached the following decision and update to our leagues’ Select / House League Tournament Policy.

We will no longer disrupt our House League seasons by switching to a double game or double practice weekend going forward. These accommodations have been made in the past to allow our Select Teams to enter tournaments at any time during the season, however these changes have had an outsized effect on the programming for the majority of House League players (those not on the Select teams). Development sessions have been missed, total number of practices reduced, and House League teams have had to play on occasion without a full team.

As a result, our Select teams will have the option to enter tournaments throughout the season only during weekends where our House League program is not disrupted. These include the Christmas shutdown period, the week of the Girls’ Hockey home tournament (October 27-29), or after the House League season is complete. By prioritizing our House League schedule, we protect the ice times of our greatest number of participants along with their development opportunities.

A further result of this change is the impact this will have on House League teams potentially wanting to enter a tournament of their own.  Going forward, our House League teams may NOT enter tournaments in any division where AMHL runs a Select team for a given season.

Ancaster Minor Hockey sees House League as priority – our core membership. Our Select program is a wonderful additional opportunity for some of our players to compete at a higher level, and participate in the tournament experience.

If your child would like the opportunity to play in a tournament with their team – we strongly encourage them to register and take part in our Select Tryouts starting this weekend!
