Initiation Program 2018-2019 Season

Ancaster Minor Hockey is proud to offer a full Initiation Program for all children looking to learn the game and have fun. From 4 years of age, our players can come out and learn to skate and learn this great game in a fun, encouraging environment.

First and “Second” Shift - Introductory and Kick-Off Programs
Due to some scheduling changes and program paramaters with the Canadian Tire First Shift Program, our plans for the 2018/2019 Season have been updated.

The FIRST SHIFT program will hold our Welcome Event on November 2nd, 2018.  More details to be released closer to that date. The First Shift sessions will run from the middle of November through the later portion of December 2018 (6 Sessions).

Because of this later timing, we have “reset” our regular House League programming to begin along our normal scheduled timeframes - with Mass Evaluations taking place on either the September 22nd (Atom and up) or September 29th (Mites and Tykes) weekends.

We are also pleased to again be offering a Development program for players from Mites through Atom (and some Peewee) - running Tuesday evenings. This program can be an excellent option for both kids “catching up” and those that want to excel and look to move into Select or Rep Hockey in the future.

CHIPs Program (4 Years of Age or First Step)
Our CHIPs program runs on Saturday mornings and teaches the basics of skating and movement on the ice.

Children must wear full hockey gear on the ice, and will be coached to stand, move, skate and play over a 20 week program running from October through the beginning of March.

Children are on the ice one hour per week (8:30 am or 9:30 am) on Saturday mornings at Morgan Firestone Arena Rink B. The program will commence Oct. 6th.

We are thrilled to once again have Kelly Reed Hockey providing the coaching and support on the ice for all sessions for the 2018/2019 Season!

*Note: No skate on Oct.27th due to Girls Hockey Tournament*

Mites Program (5 Years of Age)
As a second step on our children’s hockey journey, our Mites program is broken into 4 teams with a full coaching staff.

Teams are on the ice 2 hours a week for a 20 week season, with a practice on Saturday mornings (7:30 am) and game on Sunday mornings at 10:30- 11:30 a.m. Practice and Games are at Morgan Firestone Arena Rink B.

This season will start Oc.t 6th. Games are played on a half-ice surface, allowing for better engagement in the play and connection with the action. Basic hockey skills and continued skating development are our primary focus.

For the 2018/2019 season, we are happy to welcome back Leo Paone to the AMHL, offering on-ice support to both our players and coaches to help deliver a highly successful development experience.

Tyke Program (6 & 7 Years of Age)
As our kids start to get the hang of their skating and movement on the ice, we continue their development with our Tyke program.

Again, teams are formed with a full coaching staff, and our kids are on the ice for 2 hours each week of a 20 week season, with a practice on Saturday mornings (7:00 am or 8:00 am) Morgan Firestone Rink A and game on Sunday mornings at 7:30 or 8:30 a.m.  at Morgan Firestone Rink B.

Once again the entire season will be played on a half-ice surface, as mandated by Hockey Canada, helping our kids to actively participate and master their hockey skills.  For the 2018/2019 season, we have again secured additional practice time – allowing kids to stay on the ice for a fully guided development practice every other Sunday 9:30 -10:30 am following their game for an additional hour!

For the 2018/2019 season, we are happy to welcome Leo Paone to the AMHL, offering on-ice support to both our players and coaches to help deliver a highly successful development experience.

Mass Practice Tykes will be held On Saturday Sept 29th and Sunday Sept 30th @ Morgan Firestone.
