Avalanche Take the Win!
The Caledon Hawks were in town Saturday night and the Avalanche were ready to put a checkmark in the Win column. The Hawks came out hard and pressed the Av's in the first period and eventually took a 1-0 lead. The Av's continued to battle and half way through the first
period Ryan proved that if you keep your feet moving and skate hard good things happen. "Rhino" took off up the ice and as he blew past the last defencemen on a breakaway he was tripped, resulting in the most exciting play in hockey..."The Penalty Shot". Ryan was all confidence as he took the first Penalty Shot in Av's Minor Atom AE history, making no mistake as he buried the deke.
With the Av's on the scoreboard the pace picked up and after Josh made a 2nd period breakaway save, the team poured it on scoring 5 unanswered goals. Colin, Johnny, Nick, Hunter and Teddy all buried 2nd period goals and the Av's took a commanding 6-1 lead into the 3rd period.
With the team finally firing on all cylinders the coaches took the opportunity to experiment and give some different players some new experiences. Caledon continued to press and Josh stood his ground making 21 saves in the process. Lacking in some defensive experience the Av's gave up 4 goals in the period but Teddy and Cole both buried their chances and kept the Hawks trailing.
Final score 8-5, Av's win their first OMHA playoff game.
The team heads to Milton Tuesday night for another very tough test but will play their hardest!!
