Avalanche Come Up Short in Erin
With their backs to the wall, the Atom AE Avalanche looked to extend the Tri-County Championship series on Sunday.

The early moments were back and forth before Erin found the back of the net at 6:45.  Following the goal, the Erin-Hillsburgh Devils strategy appeared to be a throw back to the 1970’s when muscle and intimidation was king.  Ancaster was given every opportunity to break their playoff scoring slump, with 5 penalties being called on the Erin team.  Despite the many power play opportunities, Ancaster could once again not score.

A second goal early in the second period made Ancaster’s task much more difficult.  Ancaster had 2 more power play chances but once again they went for naught.  The Devils made it 4-0 before the end of the period and the series was all but finished.

With 2 more goals early in the third, Erin did not let off the pedal.  The overly aggressive group took 6 more penalties after they had gained the 6-0 lead.  Included in the penalties was an over the top hit on an Ancaster player that led to a suspension.  Over the final 6 minutes the Devils seemed to enjoy shoving their success down Ancaster’s throat.  Ancaster did not retaliate and showed unbelievable discipline and class in doing so.

Despite the lack of offense, 1 goal in the series and almost no power play production, the boys made the coaching staff proud.  This team battled hard all year and will only get better over the coming years.  With 4 silver medals this season, the only thing holding this 2002 group back from a championship is learning how to finish and win the big game.

GREAT SEASON BOYS!

The remaining surplus ($ 222,429.00 – roughly one half the total surplus) was relegated to a later creation in 1961 of the Hamilton Tiger-Cat Athletic Trust Fund. The Athletic Trust exists to serve a broad spectrum of amateur sports, other than football. Both Funds are administered independently, and both trusts are administered by separate board of trustees and exist independent of the football club. Since 1961, the capital sum of the Athletic Trust has grown seven-fold while serving 35-50 grant requests annually.
