The Major Peewee AA’s won the silver medal at the Stoney Creek Tournament of Champions (Nov 16-18) losing 5-4 in the championship game against the Nepean Raiders, currently the #2 ranked Peewee AA team in Ontario.
There were 16 teams in a very tough Peewee division. The Avalanche lost their first game 4-1 to the West Mall Lightning and then defeated the Buffalo Southtown Stars 5-2 and the Hamilton Huskies 4-0 to advance to the quarter-finals against the Belle River Canadiens. Down 3-1 in the third period, the Avalanche stormed back with three goals to edge the Canadiens 4-3.
In the semi-finals against Stoney Creek, the Avalanche were down 3-1 at the start of the third period again. They fought back and took a 4-3 lead only to have Stoney Creek tie it up with less than a minute to go in regulation. The Avalanche prevailed by a 5-4 score in overtime, winning it in the final 1-on-1 shift of the 4-on-4, 3-on-3, 2-on-2, 1-on-1 overtime format.
In the championship game, the Avalanche were down 5-2 in the third period and fought back with two goals in the last minute with their net empty to make the final score 5-4.
The coaches are extremely proud of the boys’ grit, determination and great team play throughout the tournament.
