The Major Peewee AA’s won the Regional Silver Stick Qualifier Tournament in Stratford on December 29 by beating the Waterloo Wolves Gold 6-0 in the championship final. The Avalanche now advance to the Silver Stick North American finals in Port Huron on January 24-27.
In the round-robin, the Avalanche beat the Chatham Kent Cobras 6-1, the Stratford Warrior 6-5 and lost to the London Junior Knights Green 3-0 to finish second in their pool with a 2-1 record. They faced the London Junior Knights Gold, the 3rd ranked team in the province, in the semi-finals. The Avalanche came out firing , shut down the Knight’s big power forward, took a 4-0 lead into the third period and hung on for a 5-2 win. They faced the Waterloo Wolves in the championship who had shut out the London Junior Knights Green by a 2-0 score in the other semi-final.
In the championship game, the Avalanche carried the play for the first two periods but couldn’t beat the Wolves goalie. In the third period, the Avalanche exploded for 6 unanswered goals from six different players to capture the championship by a 6-0 score.
The coaches are extremely proud of the boys’ focus, determination and great team play throughout the tournament.
