Bantam Select Tournament Champions
The Ancaster Avalanche Bantam Select team went undefeated to win their 2nd tournament of the season. In a 4 game preliminary round the Avs scored 19 times including a pair in the opening game for Cameron Lavell and Marcus Earls. David Wilson, Mitchell Hall, Aidan Muir and Andrew Ciuffreda also added goals in the tournament opener. Game 2 of the preliminary round was a tight 2-2 contest with Michael Ariemma scoring the Avs tying goal on a nifty 3 man breakout begun by great head man pass from Evan Mahon. He relayed it to Drew Mainprize who breezed past an opponent before finding Ariemma. In a tight 3-1 contest against Lawfield it was Connor Lalonde feeding Quinn Ireland for the game winner late in the first period. Two powerplay goals and strong defence from Matthew Custeau helped the Avs win against their arch rivals from Burlington to finish out the preliminaries. The Avs allowed just 5 goals in that opening round behind solid goaltending from Matthew Kong and Quentin DiBenedetto. The semi-finals, a nail-biter, went to an exciting shootout against host Dofasco. The Avs scored on their first two shots to win the semi-final, including the tournament leading sixth goal from Ireland. In the championship game Mark Randazzo set the pace by scoring twice in the 1st period. Hall added two more, the first on a smooth saucer pass from Ryan Cross as the Avs went on to a convincing 6-3 victory and the Championship.
Congratulations to all the players on another great Tournament.
