Uphill Battle
It was clear from the time O'Canada ended that the Avalanche were going to have their hands

full with the Flamborough Sabres.  In an away game, that saw the visiting Avalanche shorted handed for 20 minutes, and at multiple times 2 players short,  it was not an easy fight for the Av's.  In the first period with just 2:53 remaining Sousa broke the scoreless game open on a pass from Nunn.  Before the period ended the Sabres capitalized on a opportunity and tied the score at 1.
The second period followed the same pattern as the first, with a steady parade of Av's heading to the penalty box.  The Avalanche penalty killing was up for the challenge and were able to kill every penalty minute in the period.  The Av's, Zambon broke the tie with 6:40 to play in the second period and that's how the game remained until mid way through the third.  During one of their many power plays at the 10:15 marker, the Sabres poked home  a loose puck in a goal mouth scramble.  Then with only 4:08 remaining in the game the Sabres netted what would end up being the game winner.
The Avalanche showed great poise in a challenging game.  They battled the odds, killed off penalty after penalty, and worked as a Team to nearly pull off the win.

Great Character Game - be proud Avalanche!!
