New Atom Division for 2018-2019 Season
With the new half ice mandate for players 2011 and younger, there will be a transition year for AMHL for players born in 2010. The Atom division will be made up 3 age groups this coming season.
In past years, Novice would be a 2 year combined group ensuring adequate number of teams for a successful house league. With these new changes, a single year program could not provide enough players to satisfy the needs for a house league program.
These “major novice” ages players will be brought into the Atom program to form a 3 year cohort for the 2018/19 season. Understanding the differences in age, size and skill between players born in 2010 and 2008, Ancaster Hockey will be dividing the Atom program into 2 divisions. The separation of these divisions will be a combination of age and skill based on mass practice evaluations.
AMHL believes this is the most appropriate way to ensure all players in this age range have a successful and enjoyable hockey experience.
Keep an eye out for mass practice information on the website. Atom mass practice will occur on Sept 22 and 23.
