The U13 Avalanche spent the weekend of
November 10-12 in their 1st tournament of the season at the Innisfil Winterhawks
Fall Classic.
The team would go 3-1 in pool play,
with the loss suffered at the hands of a talented Nepean (Ottawa) team.
This record was good enough for second place in the tournament, teeing up a
rematch, and Championship Game against Nepean.
Nepean had scored the game's first
goal fairly early, keeping the Avalanche at bay for much of the game. The
Nepean goaltender was "lights out" and frustrated a talented and
offensive juggernaut in the Avalanche. In the final two minutes of the
game, with Nepean up 1-0, the Avalanche would go on the powerplay. The
goaltender was pulled for a 6 on 4 powerplay and one final Hail Mary after
a timeout was called. The Avalanche would line up at the face off in the
Nepean end, win it back to the point and get the puck to the front of the net,
where it found the back of the net by the Avalanche. Tie game. OT
was needed to solve this championship match.
A 3 on 3 OT period would demonstrate
the skill and speed of the Avalanche, but also continued to highlight the
amazing work of the Nepean netminder. With 40 seconds left to play in OT,
the Avalanche would walk in on a breakaway, and this time, make no
mistake. The Avalanche win the Winterhawks Classic 2-1 in dramatic
fashion !!!
Congrats to our U13 Ancaster Avalanche
for a tremendous and gritty performance !!!
