Major Peewee AE's Champions of Hockey for Hunger Challenge
Submitted By AMHL on Friday, January 11, 2013
The Hockey for Hunger Challenge is an annual charitable event that encourages hockey teams and associations to support their local food banks.

The Challenge, which originated in the Ancaster Avalanche Girls Hockey Association in 2008, is designed to foster community involvement and build athlete awareness and compassion for those less fortunate. Now in its 5th successful season, the Hockey for Hunger Challenge has already collected tens of thousands of food items for local food banks…and this year looks to be even bigger!

This year we had 22 teams from the AAGHA and AMHL (and even some old timers) participate in the Challenge,  collecting over 7,100 food items for the Good Shepherd Food Bank!!  An increase of 75% over last year's record donation.   Tamarra and I were blown away by your participation and generosity and can't thank you enough for your efforts.

The winning team this year, with a total of 1,074 food items collected, was Greg Coffen's Major PeeWee AE boys team. Greg's team will receive a pizza party courtesy of Cindy Meyer and Dominos Pizza in Ancaster and a power skating session with Kelly Reed of Kelly Reed Hockey and Powerskating!

In second place, with a donation total of 719 food items donated, was Daimon Mussell's Bantam BB girls team!  Daimon's team wins an on-ice workout with Olympic Gold Medalist and seven time world champion, Geraldine Heaney!

Be sure to check the website (www.hockey4hunger.com) and local papers for more photos of this year's Challenge.
