Novice Select Capture Silver at Chedoke Tournament
The Ancaster Avalanche Novice Select hockey team won silver at the 15th Annual Chedoke Christmas Select Tournament in a dramatic final game against Lawfield ending in a 5-1 loss on December 29, 2013.

Zachary Gratton, Bradley Hillman, Quinten Lisle, Noah Drury, Jacob Stegne and Thomas Domangue led the scoring for Ancaster Avalanche over the three day, six game tournament. Assists for the Avalanche came from Callum Holt, Zachary Gratton, Noah Drury, Jesse Hay, Ben Miller, Carter Susi, Nick Lehman, Thomas Domangue, Jacob Stegne, and Quinten Lisle.  Goalies Matthew Pocrnic and Kyle Magri dazzled spectators with stops against teams from across the Greater Hamilton and Toronto areas. Zachary Gratton, Bradley Hillman, Matthew Pocrnic and Adam Treffry were awarded player of the game awards during the tournament.  Defenders Devyn Bhatia, Drake Desroches, Tyler Ruthowsky and Joseph Stechey kept opponent’s scoring opportunities to a minimum. Each Novice Select player brought heart and grit to every game.

Head coach Dan Lisle says, "I am extremely proud of the kids for all of their hard work and effort. The team has only been together for about 6 weeks and the kids are starting to buy into team play and seeing the results of it. I am excited to see what lays ahead."

The Novice Select team banded together and started playing less than a week after tryouts, winning their first game of the season before even finding ice for a single practice. Led by coaches Dan Lisle, Darren Drury, Darren Hay, Chris Gratton and trainer Ben Lehman, success continued through December as the team prevailed against teams from Guelph, Brantford and Stoney Creek. The defining characteristics of this team are their passion for the game, desire to win and sense of fun when playing together.
