Avalanche Stand Tall Against Center Wellington
Ancaster - October 23
3rd Place Center Wellington rolled into town for a Tuesday night duel with your Avalanche , having lost only 1 match so far this year. The boys knew their hands would be full with this powerhouse from Fergus. With John Whitwell pacing the aisles like an expectant father, your boys were up to the task.
Center Wellington's barrage of fast breakouts, odd man rushes and one on one's , were continally thwarted by your chippy defensive grouping. Not ones to be walked over, the defense kept the disk away from a solid Ben Whitwell in the cage, and held the visitors to just 30 shots for the game. Connor Milne and Liam Conacher were digging in the corners and clearing the front of the net with authority. Alexander Duarte and Alex Roberts were blocking shots and using the boards to clear the puck. Ethan Giacomelli and Tristan Prosia roughed up any offensive threat that came their way while rushing the puck up the ice on several occasions.
Even though the home team lost 3 - 1 , your forwards were driving into Center Wellington's end whenever they could, even with a defender draped over them almost every stride. Michael Timmer showed some real energy on each shift and had the Wellington defense scratching their heads as he swarmed their net with his usual fearless style. Notable mention also goes to Conner Paveo who darted around the big boys from Fergus and took a hit when he had to. All in all, Ancaster knew that it would not be easy against the not so gentle giants from the north, and worked hard evey shift to keep the scoreboard looking decent. Great job by all. Next match has your team off to Elmira to face the once mighty Woolwich team on Friday night.
