Major PeeWee AE Win Silver
Submitted By Peter Mattei on Sunday, January 4, 2015
The Major PeeWee AE Avalanche win silver at the Wayne Gretzky International Tournament (Dec 27-30, 2014) in Brantford.

With victories over the Hamilton Huskies, Paris Wolf Pack, and Kitchener Jr.
Rangers Blue and the only loss to Perinton Blades of the USA.  The Avalanche
finished round robin play with a 3-1-0 record,  to grab 3rd place in a
strong field of 9 teams.

In the quarter-finals they faced the Kitchener Jr. Rangers Red.  A great
start to the game for the Av's with lots of energy, and taking the lead
early, but Kitchener tied it just before the end of the 1st.  The boys did
not let up and soon after grabbed the lead again early in the 2nd and added
2 more in the 3rd , to take the victory 4-1.  Waiting in the semis, was the
Perinton Blades  1 of 2 undefeated teams.  The earlier defeat was motivation
enough.  Striking first with 2 goals Ancaster took the lead into the 2nd.
A power play goal and the Blades cut the lead in half.  The boys continued
to outplay their opponents and regained their 2 goal lead shorthanded in the
3rd.  With the extra attacker Perinton once again cut the lead in half.
Still with the advantage Perinton tried, but could not get the equalizer,
thanks in part to a blocked pass and an accurate Hail Mary shot at the empty
net to secure the victory 4-2.  A win for the Avalanche and off to the
finals to face the other undefeated team the Oswego Buccaneers.

The finals proved to be an exciting and edge of your seat fast paced game.
The first two periods was a back and forth affair.  0-0 going into the 3rd,
it could have been anyone's game.  All the scoring was done in the 3rd.
Oswego jumped out to an 3-0 lead with two power play goals.  Ancaster never
gave up and cut the lead to one late in the 3rd.  A last minute attempt with
the extra attacker in an effort to tie the game and send it to overtime was
unsuccessful.    The final ended 3-2.

The coaches are extremely proud of the boys' focus, determination, effort
and great team play throughout the tournament.  Many thanks to the bench
staff, parents, family and friends who came out to support the boys.
