Play-off's start this week end.

Yes, that is correct, they start this week-end. As I get the details I will pass this along. I just received this information myself.

It looks like the teams will be split into two groups, playing a round-robin format. The top two teams on each side, advancing to the semi-finals. Stay tuned for more details.

Great "bounce back" game.

That was "old time" end to end hockey on the week-end. Providing great action in each end. I continue to see great improvement in the skill set of the boy's & I believe positional play is improving as well. I will look forward taking them into the play-offs. They are a great group of boys. I expect it will be fun for all.

Despite our best efforts to "control" number 10 of the opposing team (believe me tried). He managed to "pot" all 6 of their goals. The problem for them, they forgot about # 8 on our team. He is not called "Dyna" for nothing. Gabe also had a 6 goal game (GREAT JOB). He along with Sam were outstanding. They  dominated the play, each time, they were on the ice. Congratulations to them, they were the " Mr. Big's" of the game.

At this point we are scheduled to practice at noon, this Saturday (Spring Valley). The game is @ Morgan A (9:00). I am not sure if this will change, given the play-off format.

Goalie will be Owen.

Captain is Aidan, and his family will provide the snacks.

Looking forward to another fun week-end @ the rink.

Parents & players, welcome to 2013.

Unfortunately the first game of the New Year did not treat us well. More precisely the 1st period of the first game. Down 2 goals after 30 seconds, 5 goals after the first period, it was pretty hard to over-come that deficit. On the positive side, once the boy's got their legs going, they played well from the 2nd period onward. I was happy to see them not give up. Unfortunately it is a 3 period game, hopefully a lesson learned.

A few misc team notes:

-Lane Klarer (who is in the team picture) has decided not to play this year. He was the boy who broke his ankle prior to the start of the season. Hopefully we will see him around the rink next year. That means we are now left with 13 players (12 skaters), if everyone shows up.

-I have confirmed with the League, that the regular season will last through January.

-Family Day is on Monday, Feb 18th. Our boys have a PD Day on the Friday prior. I have confirmed with the League, they will be playing play-off games during that week-end. Thought I would bring that to the attention for anyone considering vacations.

Practice is at 4:00 on Saturday @ Morgan "A", with the game to follow on Sunday, 9:00 @ Spring Valley. We will get our opportunity to redeem ourselves from last week, as we play the Leaf's again.

Congratulations to Myles & Cole, who were the "MR. BIG's" of the week.
Goalie this week is William, the Captain & snack rotation is below.

We have now gone through the team once & I have re-sorted using the child's sweater number.

Look forward to having another fund week-end at the rink.

Weird one.

For the most part I thought we controlled the play of the game last week. We had our opportunities to score, unfortunately couldn't find the back of the net.

Anyone who is a fan of Don Cherry, may have heard him talk about the "2 goal lead", being the most dangerous in hockey. The idea being the team with the lead, gets a little over confident. If the trailing team narrows the score, you start to see tentativeness creep into to the play of the team with the lead. All of a sudden your "on your heels", not attacking the puck. You tend to see positional play deteriorate as well. Anyone who has ever played the game, will be able to relate. It happens, I could of sense it happening on the bench. The problem is the very little you can do, to stop it from happening. Please don't be alarmed. I continue to be impressed with the boys development & work ethic. We have a great team, I am really looking forward to the Play-Off's

Lucas (Butch) Smith was the best of the bunch on offense, with a "gritty" two goal performance. He will be wearing the "A", this week after his "MR. BIG" performance.

Spectacular, would be the description I would use, for Aiden (Taz) Wrights debut in net. Unfortunately, he was left alone to defend the net, far to too often. Aiden will also have the "A" on this week, for his "MR.BIG" performance.

Cole (Chewy) Smith will be wearing the "C" this week-end.

Goalie is Myles (still searching for a NN) Mansfield, who is very excited. Mom has been "pelting" him with slap shots all week, in preparation for the week-end.

Snacks: the O'Connor family.

Practice is early, 7:00 am @ Spring Valley. Sunday game vs. the Sabres @ Morgan A, 10:00.

Looking forward to another fun week-end at the rink. If you are unable to attend either the game or practice

Another great game.

We had a very short bench last week. We were down to 9 skaters, so the boy's were "suck'n wind" by the third period. Adding to the confusion, Owen (Oshi) Mansfield had to make a last minute substitution in net, for ailing Aidan (Taz) Wright. Despite the challenges, the boy's played their heart's out, to earn the victory. (Awesome) Lawson scored a beautiful goal in the 2nd period, for what I learned later was his 1st goal ever (hard to believe). The boys who were singled out for having extra special games and thus earning the "Mr. Big" awards were Domenic (Wheels) Barone & Myles (Still searching) Mansfield. They will have the "A"'s on their jersey this week.

Hard to believe, we only have 3 more games for the regular season. Once I have any details on the Play Off format, I will pass it along.

We are on the ice this Saturday morning @ 7:00 am Spring Valley. Should be a "fun" one for me, my office X-mas party start's in a few hours (ye ha).

Sunday we play @ 10:00 Morgan A, against the Thrashers.

Goalie: Aidan will play this week, as he missed last week. Myles will play next week, followed by Lawson on the 6th of January.

Captain: Cole "Chewy" Smith

Snack's: The Barone family.

Looking forward to another fun week-end at the rink, please let me know if you will not be able to attend either the game or practice.

Night & Day, the difference between the way the boys played on the week-end versus the week before. Unbelievable!

Everyone had a good "jump" in their step, and I saw some improvement on the positional play as well. It was one of those hard game to pick the "Mr.. BIG" player. Well deserved, without question, for William (Soul-Man) Saul & Cameron (Football) Palcek, but it could have easily gone to anyone of the boys. They all played very well.

Goalie: Aidan ("Tas" as in the Tasmanian Devil) Wright. Myles has expressed an interest to play Goal, so he will be in between the pipes next week. Aside from Lawson, who we have down for the 30th of this month, I believe every boy who has expressed an interest in the position, will have had an opportunity (if not please let me know). Looks like we will go on a 3 goalie rotation after next week (Owen / Lucas / Thomas), assuming all 3 still want to continue playing.

Captain: Sam (Red Light) Sheppard

Snacks: the Saul family

Looking forward to another fun week-end at the rink.

Coach Tony
