Sunday afternoon saw the Avalanche at home hosting the Centre Wellington Fusion for their inagural meeting of the 2014-15 season.

The Avalanche were firing on all cylinders for the entire game. Puck pressure deep in the Fusion zone, defence holding the blue line and defending their net when necessary, and chance after scoring chance around the opponents net.   With only one small problem, the Fusion net-minder was unbeatable.  Every line seemed to have at least one or two scoring chances each time they hit the ice but the puck just wouldn't go in.
Part way through the first period the dead lock was broken.  However, it was the fusion that opened the scoring on a power play goal and a shocked crowd watched in silence.  The Avalanche never gave of their fight and controlled the play for the rest of the first and the entire second period.  Crechiolo and Gilmour both had great opportunities to score but couldn't find the handle.  Rumours have it that Gilmour has spoken to a witch doctor and his hands should be recovered for the next game!
It wasn't until well into the third period that Misale netted a pass from Zambon and the Avs were on the score board.  The pressure resumed and then with 4 minutes left in the game Nunn broke the tie with a low shot from the slot.  This put the Avalanche in the driver's seat and fighting to hold the lead.  DiFederico and the defence did an excellent job at killing the clock and ending the game without any Fusion scoring chances.  Millar was the game puck recipient as he did an excellent job on the point, forcing players to the outside, covering his man out front and making some great break out passes in the neutral zone.
A well deserved victory!
