Atom Selects Squash 3rd Period Losses
It was a busy weekend for the Atom Select team, and a great chance for them to break away from their 3rd period trend.
In 5 separate games through November, December and January, the select team led on the scoreboard going into the 3rd period; but skated to a tie or loss, in an opponent come-back effort.
This weekend saw our boys finally break that trend, with a tense third period performance over their opponents in Jordan.
A familiar scene was unfolding for our boys, as we headed into the 3rd with a 2-1 lead... only to see Jordan quickly tie up the game and then take a 3-2 lead. With some outstanding goal-tending from the Jordan team, it seemed as if we were destined to give up another come-from-behind loss, until a few late game line shuffles found a mix that worked.
With only a few minutes left in the game, Michael DePaula was able to light a fire under his line-mates, and with some aggressive playing the boys were able to pull off 4 goals in a single shift... something I've never seen before.
The powerful late-game effort put our team in a 6-3 position, and the win over the Jordan team. The boys really earned this one, congrats to the kids!
