Shootout Win in Collingwood Leads to Bronze Medal
The Major Atom Avalanche brought hardware home from the Huronia Tournament in Collingwood, ON, after a shootout win against the Lambeth Lancers on Sunday, October 22nd, 2017.
The team faced tough competition in round-robin action, losing 1-0 against the Lincoln Blades, but recovered during the afternoon matchup against the Collingwood Blackhawks, winning 2-1 on Friday. Saturday action saw two tough losses against the Lambeth Lancers (3-2), and Barrie Colts (6-0). The one win was enough to secure a spot in the bronze medal matchup, facing the Lambeth Lancers once again. A come-from-behind, shorthanded goal by Jordan B brought the game to 1-1 mid-way through the second, and quick goal by Michael B off the face-off to start the third brought the game to 2-2. A third goal by Reid F gave the Avalanche a tenuous lead until Lambeth Responded in the dying minutes of the game. After no goals in sudden death overtime, shootout goals by Jordan B and Lyam B, and a flash of the leather by goalie Finn W to block Lambeth's final shooter, saw the team win a well-deserved medal this weekend.
