Atom HL Canadiens - Tough FIrst Day of City Championships
Wow, what a day! All I can say is... "man, city championships are HARD"!!!!
The Ancaster Atom HL Canadiens fought through two tough battles today, to put themselves in a great position for the semi-final game on Tuesday...

Game 1 saw the boys up against the Lawfield team... and what was the best goaltending we've played against all year. The Ancaster crew put forth a tremendous effort, with an outstanding defensive performance. Despite out-shooting the opponents 20-1, it looked like we were on our way to a 0-0 tie.
Late in the 3rd, Smithson was finally able to battle his way out from the corner and slip one past the keeper's glove to break the tie... and the rest of the game was a tense back and forth effort, keeping all of us on the edge of our seats until the final buzzer... What a great game, with a 1-0 well deserved win.
For our second game of the day, we were up against the Chedoke team, and what many considered to be the match of the tournament. This 'win or go home' battle was just that... a battle. From the first puck drop to the final buzzer, our Canadiens were flying!!! Smithson was able to net his second of the tournament to put the Habs up 1-0 in the second, followed shortly thereafter with a spectacular effort from DePaula, to make it 2-0.
The third period was an absolute frenzy, with kids blazing through 45 second shifts like they were in the Stanley Cup!!! I've never seen such a worn out group of kids after that win... they worked for it! With the score locked at 2-0, the Canadiens were able to solidify their place in the Tuesday night Semi-Final. Big shout-out to our goaltender, for logging his 4th shutout in the last 5 games... unbelievable!!!!
